"You can't buy happiness, but you can buy a bike and that's pretty darn close!"
A girl, her bikes and a bunch of friends and what they learned as newbies to the mountain biking world!
"So, I am 42 and I just started mountain biking. I had not been on a bike let alone a mountain bike since I was probably 22. And at 22 I probably rode around a few times on a super simple flat 2 mile trail. Then the last time before that was probably 14 when I was trying to be like the cool dudes on my BMX bikes that had pegs on it!
It started on a beach trip, rented a fat bike for the beach, got on it, felt like a kid again, rode it until I couldn’t move, came home and bought a mountain bike.
What happened after that has become a full blown obsession that no one in my family can understand and one that I have dragged a bunch of other friends into. You either get it, or you don’t - biking has made me feel like a kid again and has really helped my cardio so win win! And you end up meeting lots of cool peeps.
I did a lot of rushed stuff that was probably not wise. There were a few purchases that were also rushed and unwise. There were and probably will continue to be poor choices in trail rides. I decided downhill mountain biking down a ski hill was smart after riding a bike maybe 5 times on a trail. But, in two months time, I have learned a lot and experienced a ton. So, some of my friends and I thought a blog or site that had info from beginners for beginners would be really helpful. That is how the Granny Gear was born! For those newbies who are wondering what that is, the granny gear is the one easiest gear that either weak or old peeps use to get up hills and stuff. I am both and so in the first few weeks I lived in my granny gear.
